Biography

Carol DeBolt Eikenbery was born in Rockford, Ohio and now lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  She is a graduate of Fairborn High School and the University of Michigan School of Art and Design.  In 2002 she was selected as a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society in 2002.  She is also a member of the Virginia Watercolor Society, the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the Potomac Valley Watercolorists and the Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists.

In 1999 she was awarded the Silver Medal of Honor at the American Watercolor Society’s International Exhibition.  In 2000 she won the Gold Medal in the Baltimore Watercolor Society’s Mid-Atlantic Exhibition.  In 2002 she received the Merwin Altfield Award for non-representational painting in the National Watercolor Society’s Annual Exhibit.  Since 2002 she has received four major donor awards in the Virginia Watercolor Society’s annual juried exhibitions and in 2006 she was awarded Best-in-Show.

She works intuitively in acrylic and watercolor in both representative and non-objective styles, freely and experimentally interpreting her feelings until a piece expresses what she wants.

Much of her work, including several national and regional prizewinners are mixed media and abstract creations.  She also does impressionistic watercolors and more realistic land and seascapes based on photographs taken on trips to Europe and the Caribbean.

She has had articles published in American Artist and International Artist magazines. Her work has been purchased for many private and corporate collections including IBM. Canon Corporation, Tower and Perrin, Inc. and Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Her work may be seen at the Artist’s Gallery and the Shore Gallery and Design in Virginia Beach.

In 2009 she was enshrined into the Fairborn Schools Hall of Honor.
